System requirements and installation procedure for Mac
CD-ROM Autoplay Macintosh
The quantity of memory required for optimal functioning of this program depends on the way in which your screen is configured.
- 68030 processor, 33Mhz (LC 630) or Power PC
- Display: 256 colours (thousands of colours recommended)
- Memory: 5 MB of RAM free
- System 7.1
- Double-speed CD-ROM drive
- QuickTime 2.1
If you are able to set your screen to thousands of colours, it is strongly recommended that your system has at least 6 MB of free memory.
For Apple CD-ROM drives and machines on which System 7.5 is installed, the program will start automatically when the CD-ROM is inserted into the disk-drive.
Memory capacity, screen resolution and whether or not you have the correct version of QuickTime already installed are checked automatically on installation.
If there is not sufficient memory available to launch the product automatically, help messages will appear on your screen, which you should follow. Firstly, ensure that all unnecessary applications are closed. To maximise your system’s resources you may need to enable virtual memory on your Mac. To do this, go to the Control Panel within the Apple menu at the top of your screen (marked with the Apple logo). Select Memory, and click on Virtual Memory On. The system will prompt for the drive on which to create the virtual memory, and the size of the virtual memory file. Usually the default settings are correct. The Mac will need to be restarted to activate the new settings.
The program automatically adapts the number of colours available on your screen in order to optimise screen resolution for most systems. However for some machines, help messages will appear to guide you to the best resolution available for the product. For instance, if your screen cannot be configured in thousands of colours you will be given the option to switch to another configuration (as available as per minimum requirements)*.
If you already have an earlier version of QuickTime installed, it can be updated as necessary, as supplied with the Picasso product. Or, if you do not have it already, QuickTime can be installed easily. Go to the QuickTime files in the QTM extensions folder of the CD-ROM. Drag these files over to your System folder and re-start your computer.
Once all configurations are correct, the Picasso jingle will sound to let you know that the program has been successfully installed.
NB: It is not necessary to install files on your hard disk for this program.
*To see the colours at their optimum on your Mac, go to the Control Panel within the Apple menu at the top of your screen (marked with the Apple logo). Select Monitor, click on the « options » button and select neutral. If the opening screen does not appear once you have done this, please ensure that you have enough memory available to run the program.
